BayHo Backyard Beautification

Turning tumbleweeds into a drought tolerant paradise

Before & After

Our BayHo client’s backyard has an epic view of one of San Diego’s canyons, but tumbleweeds and other non-natives had taken over, rendering it an uninspiring space to enjoy. With a little site prep, patio and path creation, a welcoming environment was created. Got a space like this at your home that could use a facelift? Schedule your design consult today!

Soil Amendments & Prep

Much of our decomposed granite or caliche soils are devoid of organic matter. Growing anything in them requires amending the soil and increasing its organic matter content. We do this by adding healthy compost and tilling it in. This increases fertility, water absorption and allows easier root establishment.

Adding Plants!

After amending the soil and installing hardscape and mainline irrigation elements, we begin laying out the plants. This helps us visualize what the final product will look like and allows for tweaks and adjustments. Following installation, we’ll install the final irrigation and add mulch or other requested ground cover elements.

Grow Your Food

Our clients were already gardening, but wanted a fresh facelift. Josh recommended using galvanized animal feeding troughs. These long lasting structures are fast to install and can easily be moved without much fuss (after emptying their contents, of course!). Just be sure to watch out for hot edges during sunny days!

Color and life make this backyard one to enjoy!
