Our second installation at this Tierrasanta residence, this time with turf removal! The existing grass was performing marginally in this afternoon sun-soaked front yard, so our clients wanted to remove it and match the other landscape opposite the driveway.

Turf Removal Without Poisons
As ecological designers, we try our best to eliminate pesticides from our installs. While some may claim that they do no harm, be believe that their use should be avoided at all costs.
These grasses are nutsedge (Cyperus spp.) and are best removed mechanically, but this can take some time. These grasses didn’t show until three weeks after we first removed the turf. With patience and time, you can control and eradicate them from an installation without chemical treatments.
Silver Carpet Ground Cover
Dymondia margaretae, aka Silver Carpet, is a slow spreading ground cover that, once established,
can help reduce irrigation needs. This thick, mat forming plant can handle light traffic, but does best in uncompacted soils on a flatter surfaces.
